The Song Going Through My Head

A Mormon raised man named Hyrum took me on one date long ago. It was for a band in an oversized bar on the Las Vegas Strip. It was early 2011 and I thought the group’s name was so weird on the tickets.

“Imagine Dragons?” I questioned. My father looked on and nodded as this had been a proper date where the gentleman came to my house and all. “What the heck does Imagine Dragons mean?”

Hyrum responded “I heard from some friends they are going to be the next big thing”

Whatever. I still wonder if they were inspired for the music video for “Demons” by us dancing out front. It wasn’t hard to be in the front row of a bar, and boy was Hyrum an awesome dancer. We almost kissed that night. He tried to swoop down and I mentioned something about thinking about something in Thailand and I guess he knew. It was on of the most erotic things in my life and we never even kissed. That good man would make a great husband for some lucky lady. It just wasn’t going to be me.

I know Dan Reynolds voice as much as I do Brandon Flowers. I remember hearing “Bad Liar” for the first time on the radio as I was reaching into the beautiful panorama of the Rocky Mountains on Interstate 70 Westbound from Lyman into Denver in June of 2020. It always stuck with me.

This song has been going through my head. For one of my favorite music groups. Las Vegas born and bred.
