Spring has sprung in Las Vegas so I figured I’d share some pictures from around the yard of some of the flowers in bloom:
Gazania
Dandelions are a favorite of mine and I can’t fathom why these beautiful blooms were ever considered a weed. The entire plant is edible and I’ve heard that charred roots make an acceptable coffee substitute should I ever decide to give up my most enduring bad habit. Here some butterflies have decided to enjoy them:
The aloe is flowering next to my desert mural
Hyacinth was planted 10 years ago and reliably comes up every late February for a few weeks only to promptly disappear and be forgotten about the rest of the year
The blossoms from our plum trees are beautiful
Marigold
The peach tree had a few buds
For those wondering about my tiny home from a shed project this is how I left it. Last week I lightly secured the metal roof, then the high winds came and shredded my work. It turns out 75 mph gusts are hard to do construction in! They are also very hard on an airplane as it was a very turbulent flight out of Las Vegas.
I rented a motorbike and went back to the old bungalow first to see for myself what had happened. Daisy and Shadow are unfortunately nowhere to be seen. The place is gone for purposes of living in it. My Thai language may be no good but I think they might be trying to send us a message with the fence:
So I tracked down my husband, which was a lot harder to do than it sounds. Obviously I had never been to the new construction site he was working on, which was variously explained to me as being in Kamala, near Patong, near Phuket Town, in Kathu district. Kuhn Chef had told me that it was close to Tiger Kingdom so that was my meeting spot with Ka. My husband is sporting a massive tan, new haircut and is back to being more muscular. I barely recognized him at first. Unfortunately he hopped on my rented motorbike as his ride sped away, not showing us where specifically he was staying. To call this place off the beaten path would be an understatement. We spent almost three hours looking for it, getting lost and retraced back to Lotuses a few times. I can’t remember the location of somewhere that I have never been to before. A Thai person helpfully provided us with a google map dot of a golf course, but that ended up winding us back to the main road. Kathu Waterfall road did likewise. I get it now.
The construction site is surrounded by a few multimillion dollar mansions, of the types that Jeff Bezos or Oprah Winfrey might keep as their 62nd property. They are basic 20,000 square foot mistresses suites, for when your favorite politician needs a nook and cranny hideaway for their higher level official duties. I can vouch for there being no underground tunnels at least!
So greetings from Phuket. I’m still trying to get situated with a lot of moving pieces…
I think the purple flower is rather a hyacinth than a hydrangea. Love the peach blossoms, mine is in bloom too. Ah the cactus flowers make me think of the short time I lived in AZ. How beautiful!
Your love for your family supercedes all other concerns, and I respect you much for this. You are brave and worldly, in an age of many cowards and false people. I am not sure what 'be safe' means anymore, but I will keep you in my thoughts Amy. best - jackie in Oregon still....
