My Favorite Song of All Time

As some of you may know I rarely watch television myself, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t watched any. My first husband Oh liked to watch Criminal Minds, for instance, and I often tuned into it with him. I remember in one episode the team of FBI agents were looking for a serial killer who was tied to a particular song and set of music. Agent Dr. Reid from Las Vegas, one of my favorite characters, chimed in with a realization:

“The music that is popular around the time a person is 14 years old is the most substantial in one’s whole life.” Through this the team was able to figure out how old the killer was and eventually track him down and solve the case.

I scoffed at the time. They wouldn’t have found me that way. A few years ago my daughter asked me if there was any music that I didn’t like.

“Not really, but there is some music that I never cared for. That I just don’t get and am totally apathetic to.”

“Name some popular bands like that.”

I shrugged. “I’ve never cared at all for Nirvana and Pearl Jam. I just don’t get a single one of their songs.”

Guess what was super popular in the early 1990’s in Ohio when I was 14?

I’ve had a lot of songs that would make my all time favorites list, from Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” to Leanne Womack’s “I Hope You Dance.” But at least since I was around 14 years old, this has been my all time favorite song. It hasn’t changed, even as the rest of the mix has moved around to more popular recent songs:
