Another of our Trees is In Season
Pictures and a few notes
Because Thailand is warm year round, fruit plants can choose whether to have a season or not. Almost all have one season that is more productive than another, but many like coconuts and bananas produce year round. I mentioned a few seasonal trees we have that only produce fruit once per year. This is one of them. It will be producing fruit for the next month. These bunched fruit are each the size of a small plum, which is another once per year producer, which is in season at the Las Vegas house right now.
This is similar to a fruit called Longan, which is in the lychee family, but my husband insists it’s a smaller variety of it and gives it a slightly different name. You can read more about longan fruit here.
We just harvest the bunches, try to shake the ants off, and eat them. I have no recipes for them. You peel off the softish outer yellow and brown spotted shell and the light white skin. There are four edible compartments and an inedible green or black seed in the middle. These taste similar to lychee. I’m sure one could make some jam or something out of them, but we never have enough to worry about it.
Have you ever tried them?
YES I HAVE!!!!
Omg omg omg I love those things!!
